Are you a trashy report or an important tool in your business? Power BI provides the answers you are looking for
The office cabinet is full of old office supplies. I also added a non-functioning keyboard and a mouse to our cabinet. The same old thought of "I might have to this sometime later" still plagues us digitally.
Information systems, like physical objects, will eventually become obsolete. This is true for all reports, metrics and reporting platforms.
Many times, when implementing a new system is underway, old structures are still in use. In the last few hours of the resource-spending process, it can become weeks, months, and finally years. In case you still need something.
Do not fall for the trap of thinking that something will come later.
It is easy to shut down a server, reporting service or database. Even so, it is possible to miss crucial strategic decisions. It is not easy to determine if a system serves a purpose.
Similar questions arise when a new system is implemented. Is everyone using the new system, or just trying it out? Do all of the reports get used, or a small fraction? Which device, when and how often? Which terminal devices are compatible?
These are the most important questions to answer. Without them, it is difficult to manage both the old and the new system. Many systems provide the necessary information for data bases and log files.
These would need to be discovered separately, and this is not an option, especially if the old solution is being used.
What do we do? You can make a decision by tossing a coin - heads will shut down the system, tails will retain it. Or is there a better way?

Decisions related to the reporting cycle should not be made based on guesswork, memorising, or memorising. The most sophisticated reporting and analysis services are available to you here.
PowerBI.com's basic solution provides a way to monitor the usage statistics of individual information models and dashboards, as well as reports. As an integrated feature, the service includes a reporting function for workspace usage over the past three months. It is easy to access it in just a few clicks.
You can also customize the solution. With just a click, you can generate the appropriate usage metrics report for your needs using a pre-made template. You can save a default report as a copy to your workspace. When you are in edit mode, a pre-made data template with usage metrics is also available. You can remove the report-level DashboardGuid restriction to get information about the entire workspace contained in the same report.
My estimates of the number users of the existing system are based on gut feelings only. They are rarely accurate. Surprised at the widespread use of mobile reports, I was not expecting it. Maintenance breaks can be scheduled for operations that are based upon data provided by the BI service.
Furthermore, I notice if someone from the deployment phase test group accidently starts using the test version after the production version is released. With the BI service, everything stays under control and the digital environment is kept free from unnecessary trash. How can we do this with the office cabinet?
My entire career has been free from any situation in which I would need a broken tool. An electronics waste bin is the best place to store broken IT tools. Don't store trash in your cabinet. Instead, look for solutions that work.
