Highlights in the Internet Retailer Conference

I recently attended the Internet Retailer Conference in Chicago and it was a terrific show. If you can attend just 1 show annually, I highly recommend visiting this one and if you're unable to get to some shows because you're overly involved in your business you want to discover a way to get there. This is the 3rd time I've attended this conference and I have learned alot and flipped the relations I have met into friends in addition to opportunities to grow my company.

The keynote speaker was Imran Jooma, head of Sears ecommerce program. Jooma provided a fascinating look into the current and future ecommerce initiatives from Sears. The work being done there will raise the bar for everybody in the ecommerce world. Sears has also introduced into the merchant market, which Amazon has been doing for ages.

Along with the speakers and breakout sessions, the exhibit hall was brimming with over 400 companies displaying. Below is a list of exhibitors that I found especially interesting:

Affliliate Advertising -- ShareASale
I think that everybody is knowledgeable about the large players in this area: Commission Junction, Linkshare and Google. Yet several of my colleagues have told me that they're happy with the results they've gotten from ShareASale. They've been around since 2000 and cater to smaller sized merchants.

Comparison Shopping Sites -- SingleFeed, WinBuyer, Your Shop Wizards
If you're not supplying any feeds out to search motors, you should begin now. Because there isn't any cost involved for conversions or listings, Google is the obvious place to begin.

There are only four licensed Google Product Search Partners and SingleFeed is just one of them. They can help you optimize, categorize and submit your feeds to Google and a number of other engines.

WinBuyer is a shopping portal and additionally, it provides competitive pricing comparisons on your own website. Though this might seem counter intuitive, if you think your pricing is the lowest on the net and you need to establish it, your clients won't need to click away to see your opponents prices. A bit of code inserted in your product page will show prices for competitions that you select.

Specializing in Yahoo store development, Your Shop Wizards is a feed supplier in addition to experts in custom design, search engine optimization and Google Analytics tracking. They encourage feeds to over 200 engines and are constantly adding more.

Email Marketing, Data Mining & Warehousing -- Bronto, Top Right
According to ROI, Bronto provides email marketing solutions at various levels depending upon your needs. I was unable to devote much time however in talking to coworkers, they were highly recommended and worth checking out.

Top Right is an email marketing service system which helps to supervise your home list, segment your customers and automate campaigns based on preset criteria. It permits you to target customers based on their areas of interest and to deliver the ideal promotion to the perfect customer.

Internet Security -- BuySafe, Verisign

Versign, which is now owned by Symantec (parent firm of Norton Antivirus), provides the"Versign Secured" seal on certain browsers and on your own website. It helps to improve conversion rates by instilling confidence into first time shoppers.

Search Engine Optimization -- Exclusive Concepts
Exclusive Concepts provides SEO strategies including organic SEO & link building, pay per click management, email management and content writing. They also provide conversion fostering services both from the cart and throughout the website.

Shopping Portal Management -- Channel Advisor, Mercent
One of the big opportunities is in outdoor shopping portals. The big players are of course the Amazon market. However, there are new players jumping into this area and dividing our their share of this market. Buy.com recently launched and so did Sears. Walmart is leaping into the game in addition to New Egg and others also. Integrators and channel managers like Channel Advisor and Mercent help to effectively optimize and manage these marketplaces for you.

Channel Advisor has become a pioneer in the eBay area for ages. They also offer paid search, comparison shopping feeds, custom storefronts and rich media. Mercent was set by ex-Amazon veterans and they're among those few Amazon certified integrators. Like Channel Advisor, Mercent also provides shopping feeds, price optimization software and social networking product promotion.
