Obtaining Your B2B Team on the Digital Train
The pandemic has accelerated the electronic transformation of many B2B businesses. Implementing ecommerce and other electronic tools requires rethinking how your company operates and how it interacts with customers. It's a chance to enhance sales and back-office efficiencies.
Part of the transition entails altering employees' roles and responsibilities. Employees will have to adjust. Likely they lack the essential digital skills. Many will push back or refuse to evolve.
What follows are ideas for helping your B2B team get on the electronic train.
There are lots of terrific educational resources. One is Practical Ecommerce, including my latest webinar on high-performing B2B vendors . Gartner publishes over 800 on-demand webinars on topics ranging from marketing to finance to management.

Favorite Books
My favorites books on managing change in a digital world include:
- "No Ego," which addresses how to lead through change. I have read it several times. It boils down to inviting people to step up to the challenge. It reminds me that leaders can't make people change. Leaders invite the shift.
- "The Lean Startup." The electronic transformation is a process of learning. "The Lean Startup" challenges leaders to make a company-wide culture that values innovation and learning, which is vital to embracing change, in my experience.
- "Growing Hacker Marketing." Successful entrepreneurs today wear many hats. "Growth Hacker Marketing" addresses how to combine marketing and technical skills to achieve targeted prospects and convert them into raving fans. The book is focused largely on retail, but its theories apply to B2B merchants, also.
- "Content That Dances." B2B ecommerce websites can compete with larger businesses by demonstrating subject matter expertise via persuasive content. This publication explains how to create content that connects with your audience and begins the conversion funnel.
Conferences
There are lots of helpful conventions on B2B ecommerce. They are virtual in 2020, making attendance very reasonably priced.
- "B2BNext," from Digital Commerce 360, is Sept. 29-30. I'm presenting on the 29th.
- "B2B Online," from WB Research, happens October 28-29.
Closing the Skills Gap
When it comes to gaining abilities, there is nothing like experiential education -- learning by doing. Consider having team members learn from one another.
Start looking for platform-specific tutorials and education. Consult your programmers to assist, also, in gaining abilities.
Create a safe area in your business for people to try new things. Launch smaller jobs to help staff gain skills. Identify employees that are enthusiastic and interested in the digital opportunity, even if it is not part of their existing job.

The team members in my company, by way of instance, get four hours a week of what we call"rock time" to focus on quarterly priorities and targets, like developing new skills, trying new technologies, or working on special projects. This comes in the Entrepreneurial Operating System. At the close of the quarter, workers present to the team what they learned and how the whole business can use it.
